Four Seasons Resort SEYCHELLES
A ROMANTIC HIDEAWAY SET IN A TROPICAL PARADISE
Mahé is the largest island in the Seychelles archipelago, in the Indian Ocean off East Africa. Its terrain is defined by white-sand beaches such as those in the popular resort area of Beau Vallon, and granite peaks including the rainforested Morne Seychellois. The island is also home to Victoria, Seychelles’ capital, known for Creole architecture and a colorful covered market with wares like fish, fruit, and clothing. Hidden in the steep jungle overlooking a deserted beach, Four Seasons Resort Seychelles is made up of a series of superb villas with private infinity pools.
On the southwest tip of the island of Mahe, the Four Seasons resort offers an unrivaled luxury experience to its guests.
Depart your private villa in a golf buggy to explore the pool, the surf school, and the outstanding bay. The white sand beach below the hotel is calm and tranquil and in fact, is a real dream with the clean turquoise water and soft clean sand. It’s the perfect setting for strolling, lounging, or playing. Rent a stand-up paddleboard and explore the water at your own pace. Surfers can pop along to the next beach over for the best waves.
The treehouse-style villas are decorated with nods to Creole culture. Hardwood decks and outdoor showers help you embrace the natural surroundings, and each villa has its own gorgeous private infinity pool. You can also order 24-hour in-villa dining, perfect for intimate meals.
The hotel’s spa has a fantastic array of treatments and plenty of specialty yoga classes. Hike up the mountainside and take part in the popular Mountain Meditation class, where you can strike a yoga pose as you look out over the breathtaking beach at Petite Anse. In the spa, book in as a couple for a series of indulgent treatments at one of the five massage pavilions. There’s everything here for the romantic holiday of your dreams.
▪️Location
Set on a steep, forested hillside on the southwestern side of Mahé, the 170-acre Four Seasons site embraces the horseshoe-shaped bay of Petite Anse. The swimming is great all year round and to top it all the sun sets perfectly between the two headlands.
▪️Style and Character
Hats off to the clever engineers who solved the problem of the vertiginous site by perching its 67 vernacular Seychellois villas on soaring stilts that ensure everyone’s deck peeks above the treetops for a slice of that fabulous view. Inside, the villas feel like treehouses particularly in the evening when fruit bats fly past and evening swims shatter the perfect reflection of champagne pink clouds in your private infinity pool.
For some, the steepness of the site might be a drawback involving inescapable buggy rides up and down. For others, it will be part of the fun – a chance to chat with the ineffably charming staff while enjoying a daily rollercoaster ride through a tropical garden heady with the scent of frangipani flowers. The zoning also makes for an expansive holiday experience from the barefoot, beach vibe around the pool to the classy ZEZ restaurant midway up the site and the secluded, hilltop spa with its swooping views over the bay.
▪️Service and Facilities
The facilities here are top-notch, including a beachside infinity pool, two restaurants (one Creole and one International), two bars, pop-up beach barbecues, a hilltop spa with five private massage pavilions and an on-site yoga master, a techno gym, an excellent watersports center (offering diving, snorkeling, sailing, and kayaking) and a concierge service that can arrange all manner of island excursions including painting sessions with renown local artists.
A wonderful team of 470 Seychellois and international staff deliver an impeccable service, for which the brand is rightly renowned.
▪️Rooms
The 62 single-bedroom villas and five two- and three-bedroom suites come in a variety of locations. Lower-level garden view villas are closer to the main pool, the beach, and the informal Kannel restaurant; while the hilltop, ocean-view villas (which are pricier) are prime honeymoon hideaways with outdoor showers, and treetops sun-lounging decks, and glassy infinity pools.
The rather formal European-Colonial style interiors include a TV/lounge area, a canopied Sealy bed, and a gloriously big bathroom with a sunken tub set at the foot of floor-to-ceiling windows. For those with even more demanding needs, eight of the three- to six-bedroom residential villas are also available to rent complete with a house butler.
▪️Food and Drink
Breakfast is an impressive buffet laid out in the open-air ZEZ restaurant, which has glorious views. Sipping guava smoothies and picking over shrimp rougaille while bright, red Madagascar fodies try to steal your toast crumbs is a wonderful daily ritual. This is also the place for fine dining evening meals although some of the items on the menu, such as braised beef cheek with truffle ratte potatoes, seem a tad over-wrought for island life.
Much more exciting is the sushi bar next door with its incredibly sexy atmosphere and exquisitely prepared sushi and sashimi. Down by the pool, Kannel serves a more relaxed, family-friendly menu of pizza, salads, and South Asian and Creole cuisine. And, a few times a week, there’s a pop-up steak shack or barbecue beneath the palms.
