The Beverly Hills Hotel opened on May 12, 1912, before the city even existed. The idea was to create a hotel for people to stay at while looking at properties to buy in the area. The original owner and founder of The Beverly Hills Hotel were Margaret Anderson and her motto for the hotel was, “Guests are entitled to the best of everything regardless of cost!”
The Beverly Hills Hotel offers the glamorous ambiance of Hollywood’s Golden Age. Set on 12 lush acres of beautifully landscaped property, this Five-Star, Five-Diamond hotel has been a celebrity hot spot since its opening in 1912. The fabled hotel continues to welcome celebrities, royalty, and leaders from around the world with luxurious accommodations, exemplary service, and unrivaled beauty. Frequented by generations of film industry icons from Marilyn Monroe to Elizabeth Taylor, The Beverly Hills Hotel offers 210 guest rooms and suites, including the 23 famous bungalows.
Old, classic Hollywood through and through, this hotel feels loved and lived in. So many parts of the property have become recognizable, from 1970s post-Academy Awards photoshoots to today’s Instagram feeds, such as the bubblegum pink plaster walls framed with huge Mexican palms; the green candy-striped pool beds; and the inviting porte-cochere. The banana leaf wallpaper that adorns the corridors and public areas are perhaps the most distinguishable (and copied) wallpaper in the interior world.
Service is polished, friendly, and faultless. Staff members address you by name and carry out requests gracefully and immediately. Many have been here their entire careers and are as intrinsic as the wallpaper, such as page Renato Tayson, who started in 1995.
The services by the pool are excellent – ice-cold water, umbrellas aplenty, sun tan lotion, sunglasses cleaning, and free snacks such as mini soft-serve ice creams and mojito lollies.
Accommodations
There are no fewer than nine room categories, ranging from historic guestrooms and suites in the main building to 23 stand-alone bungalows, the most lavish of which have private pools and grand pianos. Materials are luxurious – bronze fixtures, buttery leather sofas, and marble bathrooms the color of Himalayan salt.

Restaurants
Fountain Coffee Room
The characterful Fountain Coffee Room on the lower-ground floor of the hotel dates back to 1949 and is based on a typical Southern Californian coffee shop. Breakfast options include omelets, pancakes, waffles, and French toast. Later in the day, salads, hot or cold sandwiches, and burgers grilled to order are on the menu. The Fountain Coffee Room also serves homemade natural ice creams and fresh-baked pastries, pies, and cakes. The soda fountain offers a large selection of the specialties so big in 1950 such as sodas, floats, malts, and shakes, plus the gourmet coffees popular today. A historical landmark, The Fountain Coffee Room has restored the 19 bar stools that originally surrounded the classic curved soda fountain counter, built-in 1949. Note the signature banana leaf wallpaper.
Polo Lounge
The Polo Lounge has been known as the epicenter of power dining in LA and the preferred place to be for legendary stars and Hollywood deal-makers. It was established in the 1930s and was named after the polo fields on which it was built. The legendary pool opened in 1938 as ‘The Sand and Pool Club’, complete with sand to make it feel like a true beach club.
Where else but the Polo Lounge could have a candy-striped ceiling and make it look effortlessly cool? This iconic room, once described as ‘Hollywood’s commissary’ has a history as fabled as Tinsel Town itself. Enjoy delicious breakfast, lunch, or dinner while stargazing in this classic Hollywood-style setting. Lunch and dinner are served with piano accompaniment. In the evening guests can take in the scenery and ambiance while enjoying a specialty or old-favorite cocktail.
With its spectacular array of palm trees and flowers, the patio is one of Los Angeles’ premier and prettiest outdoor dining settings. Equally wonderful for a sunny breakfast or a twinkling night of soft music and familiar faces.
The Cabana Cafe
One of the most unique spots in L.A. to dine alfresco, the Cabana Cafe serves breakfast all day, fresh salads, wood-fired pizzas, sandwiches, burgers, and smoothies in a casual-chic poolside environment.
