Inakaya has more than 50 years of history and is a long-established Robatayaki restaurant founded in 1970. This is one of Tokyo’s most beloved restaurants and a favorite among Japanese and foreign diners alike. Not only that, but this is the place where celebrities come to dine, including the president of the United States. Inakaya East boasts two robatayaki cooking fires and offers high-quality food in a warm and welcoming environment. Inakaya East retains a traditional air while catering to the discerning modern customer, including quite a few celebrities. Here, diners will be delighted in the splendid art of ancient Japanese dining. There is an extensive choice of top-quality sake to enjoy with your meal, as well as wine, beer, and more. Feel free to ask for advice as the friendly staff will assist you to choose the best. I was enjoying the freshest fish, meat, and vegetables, all of which come served on a large-sized shamoji – very unique. The menu is diverse and whatever you desire – from mouthwatering seafood, meat, tofu, and vegetables – you will be spoiled for choice! Choose your own selection of food, from many dishes such as sashimi, nimono (boiled dish), sunomono (pickled dish), zosui (rice porridge), rice balls, or whatever you desire. The specially trained chefs will prepare it in front of you, “robatayaki” style. This particular method of cooking and eating involves sitting at a large, U-shaped table with all the food in piles on the other side. Simply point to something and a waiter will call out your order to a chef who chef will grill it up on long metal skewers. The beef kushiyaki uses only the highest grades of meat and the vegetables are fresh daily. The restaurant can be reserved for private parties upon request. The chefs then pick up the desired ingredient or ingredients using a giant wooden paddle, grill it on a charcoal grill in full view of everyone, and then slide the prepared dish off of the paddle directly in front of the ordering diner. The end result is a very festive and boisterous atmosphere (the staff and chefs constantly welcome customers with a customary “Irasshaimase!” and shout orders to each other) with absolutely stunning food-the simplicity of the presentation belies the unparalleled quality and flavor of the ingredients. The atmosphere is lively and Inakaya can claim to have hosted such celebrities as the President of the United States.
