The beaches of Normandy and pointe du hoc bunker are synonymous with World War II and visiting in-person puts things in perspective. The beaches are in no way “close” to Paris but considering their importance many people take the pilgrimage if they have an extra day in Paris.
It is a 3-hour+ drive and there are lots of things to see along the way including some pretty amazing cider (beer) breweries.
